بابٌ فِيمَا جَاءَ فِي نَعِيمِ الْمُوَحِّدِينَ وَثَوَابِهِمْ وَوَعِيدِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ
Chapter on what has come regarding the bliss and reward of the monotheists and the warning for the polytheists
Hadith 24
عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ((مَنْ شَهِدَ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ وَأَنَّ عِيسَى عَبْدُ اللَّهِ وَرَسُولُهُ وَكَلِمَتُهُ أَلْقَاهَا إِلَى مَرْيَمَ وَرُوحٌ مِنْهُ وَأَنَّ الْجَنَّةَ حَقٌّ وَالنَّارَ حَقٌّ، أَدْخَلَهُ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى الْجَنَّةَ عَلَى مَا كَانَ مِنْ عَمَلٍ، (وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ:) أَدْخَلَهُ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى الْجَنَّةَ مِنْ أَبْوَابِهَا الثَّمَانِيَةِ مِنْ أَيِّهَا شَاءَ دَخَلَ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna ‘Ubada bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever bears witness that Allah alone is the true deity, He is One, He has no partner, and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and His Messenger, and that ‘Isa (peace be upon him) is Allah’s servant and His Messenger and His word which He cast to Maryam (peace be upon her), and a spirit from Him, and that Paradise is true and Hell is true, then whatever his deeds may be, Allah Almighty will admit him into Paradise.” In another narration: “He will enter Paradise through whichever of its eight gates he wishes, Allah Almighty will admit him through that gate.”
Hadith 25
وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: ((مَنْ شَهِدَ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ حُرِّمَ عَلَى النَّارِ، (وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ) حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى عَلَيْهِ النَّارَ))
It is also narrated from Sayyiduna ‘Ubada bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: “Whoever bears witness that Allah alone is the true deity and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His Messenger, then he will be made forbidden for the Fire.” In another narration: “Allah will make the Fire forbidden for him.”
Hadith 26
عَنْ يُوسُفَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَلَامٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ نَسِيرُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذْ سَمِعَ الْقَوْمَ وَهُمْ يَقُولُونَ: أَيُّ الْأَعْمَالِ أَفْضَلُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((إِيمَانٌ بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ وَجِهَادٌ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَحَجٌّ مَبْرُورٌ)) ثُمَّ سُمِعَ نِدَاءٌ فِي الْوَادِي يَقُولُ: أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((وَأَنَا أَشْهَدُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا يَشْهَدَ بِهَا أَحَدٌ إِلَّا بَرِئَ مِنَ الشِّرْكِ)) قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ: وَسَمِعْتُهُ أَنَا مِنْ هَارُونَ.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We were walking with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when he heard people saying: "O Messenger of Allah! Which deed is the most virtuous?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "To have faith in Allah and His Messenger, to strive in the path of Allah, and Hajj Mabroor (an accepted pilgrimage)." Then a voice was heard from the valley, someone was saying: «أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ». Upon hearing this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "And I also bear this testimony, and I also bear witness that whoever gives this testimony will be free from shirk (associating partners with Allah)." Imam Ahmad's son, Abdullah bin Ahmad, said: I heard this hadith directly from the narrator Haroon.
Hadith 27
عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: ((مَنْ مَاتَ لَا يُشْرِكُ بِاللَّهِ شَيْئًا دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever dies in such a state that he does not associate anyone with Allah Almighty, he will enter Paradise."
Hadith 28
عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِثْلُهُ.
Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) also narrated a similar hadith from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 29
عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الصَّلْتِ عَنْ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ الْبَيْضَاءِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ فِي سَفَرٍ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَنَا رَدِيفُهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((يَا سُهَيْلَ بْنَ الْبَيْضَاءِ!)) وَرَفَعَ صَوْتَهُ مَرَّتَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثًا، كُلُّ ذَلِكَ يُجِيبُهُ سُهَيْلٌ، فَسُمِعَ صَوْتُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَظَنُّوا أَنَّهُ يُرِيدُهُمْ، فَحَبَسَ مَنْ كَانَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ وَلَحِقَهُ مَنْ كَانَ خَلْفَهُ حَتَّى إِذَا اجْتَمَعُوا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((إِنَّهُ مَنْ شَهِدَ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ حَرَّمَهُ اللَّهُ عَلَى النَّارِ وَأَوْجَبَ لَهُ الْجَنَّةَ، (وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ) أَوْجَبَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَهُ بِهَا الْجَنَّةَ وَأَعْتَقَهُ بِهَا مِنَ النَّارِ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Suhail bin Bayda’ (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We were on a journey with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), while I was riding behind him on his mount. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called out loudly two or three times: “O Suhail bin Bayda’!” Sayyiduna Suhail (may Allah be pleased with him) would respond from ahead. Anyway, when the Companions heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) calling out in this manner, they thought that he wanted to call all of them, so those in front stopped and those behind caught up with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), until they all gathered together. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever bears witness that Allah alone is the true deity, Allah makes the Fire forbidden for him and makes Paradise obligatory for him.” In another narration: “Because of this testimony, Allah makes Paradise obligatory for him and frees him from the Fire.”
Hadith 30
عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الصَّلْتِ عَنْ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ الْبَيْضَاءِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ فِي سَفَرٍ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَنَا رَدِيفُهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((يَا سُهَيْلَ بْنَ الْبَيْضَاءِ!)) وَرَفَعَ صَوْتَهُ مَرَّتَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثًا، كُلُّ ذَلِكَ يُجِيبُهُ سُهَيْلٌ، فَسُمِعَ صَوْتُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَظَنُّوا أَنَّهُ يُرِيدُهُمْ، فَحَبَسَ مَنْ كَانَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ وَلَحِقَهُ مَنْ كَانَ خَلْفَهُ حَتَّى إِذَا اجْتَمَعُوا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((إِنَّهُ مَنْ شَهِدَ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ حَرَّمَهُ اللَّهُ عَلَى النَّارِ وَأَوْجَبَ لَهُ الْجَنَّةَ، (وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ) أَوْجَبَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَهُ بِهَا الْجَنَّةَ وَأَعْتَقَهُ بِهَا مِنَ النَّارِ))

Hadith 31
عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى الْأَشْعَرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَمَعِي نَفَرٌ مِنْ قَوْمِي، فَقَالَ: ((أَبْشِرُوا وَبَشِّرُوا مَنْ وَرَاءَكُمْ أَنَّهُ مَنْ شَهِدَ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ صَادِقًا بِهَا دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ)) فَخَرَجْنَا مِنْ عِنْدِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ نُبَشِّرُ النَّاسَ، فَاسْتَقْبَلَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَرَجَعَ بِنَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ! إِذًا يَتَّكِلُ النَّاسُ، فَسَكَتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), while some people from my tribe were also with me. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Rejoice yourselves and give glad tidings to those who come after you that whoever sincerely bears witness that Allah alone is the true deity, he will enter Paradise." Hearing this, we left the presence of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to give people the glad tidings, but when we met Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) ahead, he sent us back to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and advised him that (such things should not be told to the common people, otherwise) they will rely on it (and abandon deeds). Hearing this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent.
Hadith 32
عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: أَنَا مِمَّنْ شَهِدَ مُعَاذًا حِينَ حَضَرَتْهُ الْوَفَاةُ يَقُولُ: اكْشِفُوا عَنِّي سَجْفَ الْقُبَّةِ، أُحَدِّثُكُمْ حَدِيثًا سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ، لَمْ يَمْنَعْنِي أَنْ أُحَدِّثَكُمُوهُ إِلَّا أَنْ تَتَّكِلُوا، سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ: ((مَنْ شَهِدَ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ مُخْلِصًا مِنْ قَلْبِهِ أَوْ يَقِينًا مِنْ قَلْبِهِ لَمْ يَدْخُلِ النَّارَ، وَقَالَ مَرَّةً: دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ وَلَمْ تَمَسَّهُ النَّارُ))
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: I was also present with the people at the time of Sayyiduna Mu'adh's (may Allah be pleased with him) death. He said: "Lift the curtain of the canopy, I will narrate to you a hadith I heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Previously, I refrained from narrating this hadith because I feared you would rely solely on it (and neglect deeds). I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Whoever testifies with sincerity of heart or (the narrator said) with certainty that there is no deity except Allah, he will not enter the Fire.'" And on another occasion he said: "He will enter Paradise and the Fire will not touch him."
Hadith 33
عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((مَفَاتِيحُ الْجَنَّةِ شَهَادَةُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "The keys to Paradise are bearing witness to «لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ»."
Hadith 34
عَنْ رِفَاعَةَ الْجُهَنِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: أَقْبَلْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى إِذَا كُنَّا بِالْكَدِيدِ أَوْ قَالَ: بِقُدَيْدٍ فَجَعَلَ رِجَالٌ يَسْتَأْذِنُونَ إِلَى أَهْلِيهِمْ فَيَأْذَنُ لَهُمْ، فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ: ((مَا بَالُ رِجَالٍ يَكُونُ شِقُّ الشَّجَرَةِ الَّتِي تَلِي رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَبْغَضَ إِلَيْهِمْ مِنَ الشِّقِّ الْآخَرِ)) فَلَمْ نَرَ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ إِلَّا بَاكِيًا، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ: إِنَّ الَّذِي يَسْتَأْذِنُكَ بَعْدَ هَذَا لَسَفِيهٌ، فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَقَالَ حِينَئِذٍ: ((أَشْهَدُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ لَا يَمُوتُ عَبْدٌ يَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَنِّي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صِدْقًا مِنْ قَلْبِهِ ثُمَّ يُسَدِّدُ إِلَّا سَلَكَ فِي الْجَنَّةِ)) قَالَ: ((وَقَدْ وَعَدَنِي رَبِّي أَنْ يُدْخِلَ مِنْ أُمَّتِي سَبْعِينَ أَلْفًا، لَا حِسَابَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا عَذَابَ، وَإِنِّي لَأَرْجُو أَنْ لَا يَدْخُلُوهَا حَتَّى تَبَوَّأُوا أَنْتُمْ وَمَنْ صَلَحَ مِنْ آبَائِكُمْ وَأَزْوَاجِكُمْ وَذُرِّيَّاتِكُمْ مَسَاكِنَ فِي الْجَنَّةِ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Rifa’ah Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We were on a journey with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) from Makkah to Madinah. When we reached the place of Kadid or Qudayd, people began to ask permission to return to their homes, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) kept granting them permission. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up, praised and glorified Allah, and said: “What will be the state of those people regarding the side of the tree to which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)...” When we heard these words, all the people began to weep. A man (i.e., Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him) said: “After this, whoever seeks permission from you will be foolish.” Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) praised Allah and said: “Whoever bears witness with a sincere heart that Allah alone is the true deity and I am the Messenger of Allah, and then remains steadfast on the right path, I bear witness before Allah regarding him that he will go to Paradise.” Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “My Lord has promised me that He will admit seventy thousand people from my Ummah into Paradise without any reckoning or punishment, and I hope that they will not enter it until you and your righteous forefathers, wives, and children have built your homes in Paradise.”
Hadith 35
(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) قَالَ: صَدَرْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ مَكَّةَ، فَجَعَلَ النَّاسُ يَسْتَأْذِنُونَهُ، فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ قَالَ: قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ: إِنَّ الَّذِي يَسْتَأْذِنُكَ بَعْدَ هَذِهِ لَسَفِيهٌ فِي نَفْسِي، ثُمَّ إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَقَالَ خَيْرًا، ثُمَّ قَالَ: ((أَشْهَدُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ)) وَكَانَ إِذَا حَلَفَ قَالَ: ((وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ! مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ ثُمَّ يُسَدِّدُ إِلَّا سَلَكَ فِي الْجَنَّةِ)) فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ.
(Second Chain) It is narrated from Sayyiduna Rifa’ah Juhani, may Allah be pleased with him, who says: We were returning from Makkah Mukarramah with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, when people began to seek permission (to leave). Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, praised Allah Almighty and spoke words of goodness, and then said: “I bear witness before Allah Almighty that whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day and then continues upon the path of righteousness, he will proceed towards Paradise.” Whenever the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would take an oath, he would say: “By Him in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad.”
Hadith 36
(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَالِثٍ) قَالَ: أَقْبَلْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى إِذَا كُنَّا بِالْكَدِيدِ أَوْ قَالَ بِعَرَفَةَ، فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ.
(The third chain) It is narrated from Sayyiduna Rifa’ah Juhani, may Allah be pleased with him, he says: We were on a journey with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, when we were at the place of Kudaid or ‘Arafah. Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, praised Allah Almighty and spoke words of goodness, and then said: “I bear witness before Allah Almighty that whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day and then continues upon the path of righteousness, he will proceed towards Paradise.”
Hadith 37
عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ((مَنْ مَاتَ يَعْلَمُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever dies knowing that Allah Almighty alone is the true deity, he will enter Paradise."
Hadith 38
وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: ((إِنِّي لَأَعْلَمُ كَلِمَةً لَا يَقُولُهَا عَبْدٌ حَقًّا مِنْ قَلْبِهِ إِلَّا حُرِّمَ عَلَى النَّارِ)) فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ: أَنَا أُحَدِّثُكَ مَا هِيَ، هِيَ كَلِمَةُ الْإِخْلَاصِ الَّتِي أَعَزَّ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى بِهَا مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَصْحَابَهُ، وَهِيَ كَلِمَةُ التَّقْوَى الَّتِي أَلَاصَ عَلَيْهَا نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ عَمَّهُ أَبَا طَالِبٍ عِنْدَ الْمَوْتِ شَهَادَةُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ.
It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan, may Allah be pleased with him, who says: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: "I know a word that whoever says it with sincerity of heart, the Fire will be made forbidden for him." Upon hearing this, Sayyiduna Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "I will tell you what that word is; it is the word of sincerity by which Allah Almighty honored Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, and his companions. It is the word of piety which the Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, presented to his uncle Abu Talib at the time of his death, and it is to bear witness to «لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ»."
Hadith 39
عَنْ أَبِي الْأَسْوَدِ الدُّؤَلِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَعَلَيْهِ ثَوْبٌ أَبْيَضُ فَإِذَا هُوَ نَائِمٌ، ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُهُ أُحَدِّثُهُ فَإِذَا هُوَ نَائِمٌ، ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُهُ وَقَدِ اسْتَيْقَظَ فَجَلَسْتُ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ: ((مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ قَالَ: لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ ثُمَّ مَاتَ عَلَى ذَلِكَ إِلَّا دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ)) قُلْتُ: وَإِنْ زَنَى وَإِنْ سَرَقَ؟ قَالَ: ((وَإِنْ زَنَى وَإِنْ سَرَقَ)) قُلْتُ: وَإِنْ زَنَى وَإِنْ سَرَقَ؟ قَالَ: ((وَإِنْ زَنَى وَإِنْ سَرَقَ)) ثَلَاثًا، ثُمَّ قَالَ فِي الرَّابِعَةِ: ((عَلَى رَغْمِ أَبِي ذَرٍّ)) قَالَ: فَخَرَجَ أَبُو ذَرٍّ يَجُرُّ إِزَارَهُ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: وَإِنْ رَغِمَ أَنْفُ أَبِي ذَرٍّ.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), but he was sleeping, wrapped in a white cloth. Then I came again to speak with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), but he was still resting. After that, when I came, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had woken up, so I came and sat near him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever says «لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ» and then dies upon it, he will enter Paradise.” I said: “Even if he has committed adultery and theft?” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Even if he has committed adultery and theft.” I asked again: “Even if he has committed adultery and theft?” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Even if he has committed adultery and theft.” This happened three times, and the fourth time the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Even if Abu Dharr’s nose becomes dust-covered.” Hearing this, Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) left, dragging his lower garment and saying: “Even if Abu Dharr’s nose becomes dust-covered.”
Hadith 40
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: مَا ذَا رَدَّ إِلَيْكَ رَبُّكَ فِي الشَّفَاعَةِ؟ فَقَالَ: ((وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ! لَقَدْ ظَنَنْتُ أَنَّكَ أَوَّلُ مَنْ يَسْأَلُنِي عَنْ ذَلِكَ مِنْ أُمَّتِي لِمَا رَأَيْتُ مِنْ حِرْصِكَ عَلَى الْعِلْمِ، وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ! مَا يَهُمُّنِي مِنَ انْقِصَافِهِمْ عَلَى أَبْوَابِ الْجَنَّةِ أَهَمُّ عِنْدِي مِنْ تَمَامِ شَفَاعَتِي، وَشَفَاعَتِي لِمَنْ شَهِدَ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ مُخْلِصًا يُصَدِّقُ قَلْبُهُ لِسَانَهُ وَلِسَانُهُ قَلْبَهُ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "What treatment has your Lord accorded you regarding intercession?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By Him in Whose hand is the life of Muhammad! I thought that the first person to ask me about this from my Ummah would be you, because you possess eagerness for knowledge. By Him in Whose hand is the life of Muhammad! The concern I have about the crowd of my Ummah at the gates of Paradise is, to me, more important than the fulfillment of my intercession, and my intercession is for every person who bears witness to «لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ» with sincerity, such that his heart confirms what his tongue says, and his tongue confirms what his heart says."
Hadith 41
عَنْ أَبِي عَمْرَةَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ((أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَنِّي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ، لَا يَلْقَى اللَّهَ عَبْدٌ مُؤْمِنٌ بِهِمَا إِلَّا حُجِبَتْ عَنْهُ النَّارُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umrah Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I bear witness that Allah alone is the true deity and I am the Messenger of Allah. Whoever meets Allah with these two testimonies, then on the Day of Resurrection, the Fire will be kept away from him."
Hadith 42
عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ قَالَ: قَالَ ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ: خَصْلَتَانِ يَعْنِي إِحْدَاهُمَا سَمِعْتُهَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالْأُخْرَى مِنْ نَفْسِي، ((مَنْ مَاتَ وَهُوَ يَجْعَلُ لِلَّهِ نِدًّا دَخَلَ النَّارَ)) وَأَنَا أَقُولُ: مَنْ مَاتَ وَهُوَ لَا يَجْعَلُ لِلَّهِ نِدًّا وَلَا يُشْرِكُ بِهِ شَيْئًا دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ.
It is narrated from Abu Wa'il (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: There are two statements, one I heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and the other is my own. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever dies in such a state that he associates anyone with Allah, he will enter the Fire." And I myself say: "And whoever dies in such a state that he does not associate anyone with Allah nor does he make anything a partner with Him, he will enter Paradise."
Hadith 43
عَنْ أَبِي نُعَيْمٍ قَالَ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ أَوْ شَيْخٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ فَنَزَلَ عَلَى مَسْرُوقٍ فَقَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَمْرٍو رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَقُولُ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((مَنْ لَقِيَ اللَّهَ لَا يُشْرِكُ بِهِ شَيْئًا، لَمْ تَضُرَّهُ مَعَهُ خَطِيئَةٌ، وَمَنْ مَاتَ وَهُوَ يُشْرِكُ بِهِ لَمْ تَنْفَعْهُ مَعَهُ حَسَنَةٌ))
Abu Nu’aim (may Allah have mercy on him) says: A man or an old man, who was from among the people of Madinah, came and stayed with Masruq (may Allah have mercy on him). He said: I heard Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) saying that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever meets Allah in such a state that he does not associate anyone with Him, then no sin will harm him because of that deed. But whoever dies in such a state that he associates someone with Allah, then no good deed will benefit him because of that deed.”
Hadith 44
عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ((الْمُوجِبَتَانِ، مَنْ لَقِيَ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَا يُشْرِكُ بِهِ شَيْئًا دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ، وَمَنْ لَقِيَ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَهُوَ يُشْرِكُ بِهِ دَخَلَ النَّارَ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There are two traits that make it obligatory: Whoever meets Allah in such a state that he does not associate anything with Him, he will enter Paradise; and whoever meets Allah in such a state that he associates partners with Him, he will enter Hell."
Hadith 45
عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لِمُعَاذٍ: ((مَنْ لَقِيَ اللَّهَ يَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ (وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ: لَا يُشْرِكُ بِهِ) دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ)) قَالَ: يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ! أَفَلَا أُبَشِّرُ النَّاسَ؟ قَالَ: ((لَا، إِنِّي أَخَافُ أَنْ يَتَّكِلُوا عَلَيْهَا)) أَوْ كَمَا قَالَ.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him): "Whoever meets Allah in such a state that he bears witness to «لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ» and does not associate partners with Allah, he will enter Paradise." He said: "O Messenger of Allah! Should I not give this glad tidings to the people?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, I fear that they will rely on it (and abandon good deeds)."
Hadith 46
عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ نُعَيْمٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: وَكَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((مَنْ لَقِيَ اللَّهَ لَا يُشْرِكُ بِهِ شَيْئًا دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ وَإِنْ زَنَى وَإِنْ سَرَقَ))
Sayyiduna Salamah bin Na’eem, may Allah be pleased with him, who was among the Companions, narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Whoever meets Allah in such a state that he does not associate anything with Him, will enter Paradise, even if he has committed adultery and theft.”
Hadith 47
عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ حَدَّثَنَا هِصَّانُ الْكَاهِنُ الْعَدَوِيُّ قَالَ: جَلَسْتُ مَجْلِسًا فِيهِ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ سَمُرَةَ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ جَبَلٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((مَا عَلَى الْأَرْضِ نَفْسٌ تَمُوتُ لَا تُشْرِكُ بِاللَّهِ شَيْئًا، تَشْهَدُ أَنِّي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ يَرْجِعُ ذَاكُمْ إِلَى قَلْبٍ مُوقِنٍ إِلَّا غُفِرَ لَهُ)) قَالَ: قُلْتُ: أَنْتَ سَمِعْتَ هَذَا مِنْ مُعَاذٍ؟ قَالَ الْقَوْمُ: فَعَنَّفَنِي، فَقَالَ: دَعُوهُ فَإِنَّهُ لَمْ يُسِئِ الْقَوْلَ، نَعَمْ أَنَا سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ مُعَاذٍ زَعَمَ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
Hisan Kahin Adawi, may Allah have mercy on him, says: I was sitting in a gathering in which Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Samurah, may Allah be pleased with him, was also present. Sayyiduna Mu’adh bin Jabal, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated to us that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “There is no soul on earth that dies in such a state that it does not associate partners with Allah and bears witness that I am the Messenger of Allah, while this testimony is from the heart with certainty, except that it is forgiven.” I said: “Did you hear this hadith from Sayyiduna Mu’adh, may Allah be pleased with him?” At this, the people reproached me and said: “Leave him, he has not said anything wrong.” In any case, I heard this from Sayyiduna Mu’adh, may Allah be pleased with him, and he believed that he had heard this hadith from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.
Hadith 48
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ثَنَا يُونُسُ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ عَنْ هِصَّانَ بْنِ الْكَاهِلِ قَالَ: دَخَلْتُ الْمَسْجِدَ الْجَامِعَ بِالْبَصْرَةِ فَجَلَسْتُ إِلَى شَيْخٍ أَبْيَضَ الرَّأْسِ وَاللِّحْيَةِ، فَقَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاذُ بْنُ جَبَلٍ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ وَفِيهِ قَالَ: لَا تُعَنِّفُوهُ وَلَا تُؤَنِّبُوهُ دَعُوهُ، نَعَمْ أَنَا سَمِعْتُ ذَاكَ مِنْ مُعَاذٍ يَذْكُرُهُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَقَالَ إِسْمَاعِيلُ مَرَّةً: يَأْثُرُهُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِبَعْضِهِمْ: مَنْ هَذَا؟ قَالَ: هَذَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ سَمُرَةَ.
Hisan bin Kahil, may Allah have mercy on him, says: I entered the central mosque of Basra and sat near an elderly man whose hair and beard were white. He said: Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "There is no soul on earth that dies in such a state that it does not associate partners with Allah and bears witness that I am the Messenger of Allah, while this testimony is from the certainty of the heart, except that it is forgiven." He said: "Do not rebuke him and do not scold him, leave him," yes, I heard this hadith from Sayyiduna Mu'adh, may Allah be pleased with him, and he was narrating it from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. And Ismail once said: He was transmitting it from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. I asked a man: Who is this? He said: This is Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Samurah, may Allah be pleased with him.
Hadith 49
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ثَنَا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ عَنْ هِصَّانَ بْنِ الْكَاهِلِ قَالَ وَكَانَ أَبُوهُ كَاهِنًا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ قَالَ: دَخَلْتُ الْمَسْجِدَ فِي إِمَارَةِ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ فَإِذَا شَيْخٌ أَبْيَضُ الرَّأْسِ وَاللِّحْيَةِ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ مُعَاذٍ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ.
Hisan bin Kahil, may Allah have mercy on him, whose father used to practice soothsaying during the time of ignorance, says: I entered the mosque during the caliphate of Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan, may Allah be pleased with him. There was an elderly man sitting there, his head and beard hair were white. He began to narrate a hadith from Sayyiduna Mu'adh, may Allah be pleased with him, from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "There is no soul on earth that dies in such a state that it does not associate partners with Allah and bears witness that I am the Messenger of Allah, while this testimony is from the heart with certainty, except that he is forgiven."
Hadith 50
عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((يَقُولُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ لَوْ عَمِلْتَ قُرَابَ الْأَرْضِ خَطَايَا وَلَمْ تُشْرِكْ بِي شَيْئًا جَعَلْتُ لَكَ قُرَابَ الْأَرْضِ مَغْفِرَةً)) زَادَ فِي رِوَايَةٍ: وَقُرَابُ الْأَرْضِ مِلْءُ الْأَرْضِ.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah Almighty says: O son of Adam! If you commit sins equal to the fill of the earth, but do not associate partners with Me, I will grant you forgiveness equal to the fill of the earth." In one narration, it is stated: By «قُرَابُ الْأَرْضِ» is meant the fill of the earth.
