عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: أَلَا أُحَدِّثُكُمْ عَنْ صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي السَّفَرِ، قَالَ: قُلْنَا: بَلَى، قَالَ: كَانَ إِذَا زَاغَتِ الشَّمْسُ فِي مَنْزِلِهِ جَمَعَ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَرْكَبَ وَإِذَا لَمْ تَزِغْ لَهُ فِي مَنْزِلِهِ سَارَ حَتَّى إِذَا حَانَتِ الْعَصْرُ نَزَلَ فَجَمَعَ بَيْنَ الْظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ وَإِذَا حَانَتِ الْمَغْرِبُ فِي مَنْزِلِهِ جَمَعَ بَيْنَهَا وَبَيْنَ الْعِشَاءِ، وَإِذَا لَمْ تَحِنْ فِي مَنْزِلِهِ رَكِبَ حَتَّى إِذَا حَانَتِ الْعِشَاءُ نَزَلَ فَجَمَعَ بَيْنَهُمَا
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Shall I not tell you about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) during travel? They said: Why not. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: (When the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, camped somewhere) if the sun had already declined there, he would combine Zuhr and Asr before mounting (his ride). If he set out before the sun declined, he would continue traveling until the time for Asr arrived, then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would dismount and combine Zuhr and Asr. Similarly, when the time for Maghrib would come while at the (camping) place, he would combine Maghrib and Isha. And if Maghrib time did not occur at that place, he would mount (and continue traveling) until the time for Isha arrived, then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would dismount and combine the two prayers and perform them together.
