It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) taught us the Tashahhud in the middle and at the end of the prayer. Aswad bin Yazid says: We used to remember (revise) it with Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) when he informed us that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had taught him the Tashahhud. So he used to say: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would sit on his left buttock in the middle and at the end of the prayer, he would recite: “All greetings, prayers, and pure things are for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.” Then, if he was in the middle of the prayer, after finishing the Tashahhud, he would stand up (for the third rak’ah), and if he was at the end of the prayer, he would supplicate as much as Allah willed, then he would say the salam (to end the prayer). The translation of the Tashahhud: All verbal, physical, and financial acts of worship are only for Allah. O Prophet: May Allah’s peace, mercy, and blessings be upon you. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and I (also) bear witness that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is Allah’s servant and Messenger.
