Hadith 9961

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No person should call grapes "Karm," for "Karm" is actually a Muslim person.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The Arabs used to call grapes "karm" because the wine made from them would incite generosity and magnanimity (karam). When the Shari‘ah prohibited wine, it also forbade the use of this praiseworthy name for it, so that people's inclinations would not turn in that direction, and this beautiful name would be reserved exclusively for the Muslim.

One reason for this blessed hadith has also been stated: that the purpose of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was to uphold the statement of Allah Ta‘ala in its proper place {اِنَّ اَکْرَمَکُمْ عِنْدَ اللّٰہِ اَتْقَاکُمْ} … Indeed, the most noble and honored among you is the one who is most God-fearing. That is, the attribute which Allah Ta‘ala has described for the Muslim is such that nothing else should share in it.
