Hadith 9913

عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ حَيْدَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ وَيْلٌ لِلَّذِي يُحَدِّثُ الْقَوْمَ ثُمَّ يَكْذِبُ لِيُضْحِكَهُمْ وَيْلٌ لَهُ وَوَيْلٌ لَهُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Muawiyah bin Haydah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Destruction is for the person who speaks to people and lies in order to make them laugh; destruction is for him, destruction is for him.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Let alone the common people, even the elite do not refrain from lying in jest and narrating fabricated incidents, whereas a severe warning has been mentioned regarding this.
