Brief Explanation
Explanation:
In this hadith, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam has warned against lying even in jest, and has encouraged abandoning argumentation and adopting good character.
➊ The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “I am the guarantor of a house in the outskirts of Paradise for the one who abandons argumentation even if he is in the right.” That is, if a person, despite being on the truth, leaves off disputing and quarreling for the sake of Allah, then the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam guarantees for him a house in the lower part of Paradise. This shows the great virtue of abandoning unnecessary disputes and arguments, even when one is correct, because such disputes often lead to enmity, pride, and the hardening of hearts.
➋ “And a house in the middle of Paradise for the one who abandons lying even in jest.” That is, even if a person is joking, he should not lie. Many people, while joking, fabricate things and consider it permissible, but the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam has declared lying in jest to be impermissible as well, and has promised a house in the middle of Paradise for the one who refrains from it. This emphasizes the importance of truthfulness in all circumstances.
➌ “And a house in the highest part of Paradise for the one whose character is good.” That is, the one who possesses good manners, treats people well, is gentle, forgiving, and patient, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam guarantees for him a house in the highest part of Paradise. Good character is among the greatest virtues in Islam and is a means of attaining the highest ranks in Paradise.
