It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to his companions: Let no man bring to me any objectionable talk about any of my companions, for I wish that when I come to you, my heart is clean. Then some wealth was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he distributed it. I passed by two men, and one of them was saying to the other: By Allah! In this distribution, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) does not intend the pleasure of Allah Almighty nor the home of the Hereafter. Then I paid more attention and listened to their conversation. So I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! You had told us that no man should bring to you any objectionable talk about any of your companions. But now the matter is that I passed by so-and-so and so-and-so, and they were saying such things. Upon hearing this, the face of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned red, and this matter was hard on him, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Leave us alone, for Musa (peace be upon him) was hurt more than this, but he still remained patient.
