Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Disbelief and polytheism, lying and falsehood, idle talk and frivolities, abuse and insults, slander and backbiting, insulting others, disrespecting elders, harshness and severity towards the young, hurting the hearts of parents, paving the way for waywardness and immorality, and ingratitude towards Allah, hundreds of such crimes are related to the tongue. It is this very tongue because of which its possessor has to face regret and remorse in many gatherings; it is this tongue that wounds the dignity and honor of dignified and serious people. In any case, the person who fails to guard his tongue will be deprived of refraining from many evils and of performing many good deeds. This is precisely why, when Sayyiduna Sufyan bin Abdullah radi Allahu anhu asked the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam: O Messenger of Allah! What is the thing you fear most for me? The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, in response to his question, pointed to the tongue. (Tirmidhi)
