It is narrated from a Companion, who says: One day, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed us and then said: O people! There are two things; whoever Allah protects from their evil will enter Paradise. Upon hearing this, an Ansari man stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah! Will you not tell us what those two things are? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) again said: There are two things; whoever Allah protects from their evil will enter Paradise. Then the same man repeated the same thing. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said this for the third time, the Companions made that man sit down and said to him: Do you not see that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wants to give us glad tidings, but you are stopping him? He said: I fear that people will rely on this and abandon further deeds. Finally, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There are two things; whoever Allah protects from their evil will enter Paradise: one is that which is between the two jaws, and the other is that which is between the two legs.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The tongue has not only become the standard for a person’s honor and respect or disgrace and humiliation, but the success and prosperity or failure and deprivation in the Hereafter also depend upon it. In this blessed hadith, the dangers of the tongue have been pointed out: if one does not take care to guard the tongue, it can become the cause of the ruin of all deeds and, instead of admitting a person into Paradise, can make him fuel for the fire of Hell. This is precisely why, when Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir radi Allahu anhu asked the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam about salvation, he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam mentioned three things for attaining salvation: ((Control your tongue, let your house be sufficient for you, and weep over your sins.)) (Tirmidhi) … Control your tongue, let your house encompass you, and weep over your mistakes.

It is thus understood that unnecessary socializing with people and purposeless chatting can pose many dangers to a person’s religion; therefore, instead of excessive mingling, one should remain at home and spend one’s time in remembrance (dhikr), contemplation, and serving one’s family.
