Hadith 9844

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: Indeed, you are performing such deeds which, in your view, are finer than a hair (i.e., you consider them extremely insignificant), whereas in the blessed era of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), we used to count them among the destructive matters.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In the present era, the greatest obstacle in the moral upbringing of people is that they do not even have knowledge of the forms of good and evil, so that they may perform good deeds and avoid evil ones. For example: lack of modesty (be-pardagi), tight clothing, music, slander, duplicity, tale-bearing and backbiting, deceit and fraud, lying, tobacco use, shaving (removal of the beard), men letting their trousers and lower garments (shalwar and tahband) hang below the ankles, trimming the beard, shaping the beard (khat karwana), plucking facial hair, keeping long mustaches, troubling neighbors, considering oneself pious and superior and regarding others as lowly and inferior, impatience, severing ties of kinship (qata‘ rahmi), harboring anger, excessive idle talk, not distinguishing between lawful (halal) and unlawful (haram), distancing oneself from recitation (of the Qur’an), women doing threading, applying artificial nails, tying hair extensions, wearing wigs, not giving due importance to greeting (salam), taking photographs, and so on and so forth. The summary is that every Muslim should be concerned about the Hereafter, understand his status by studying the Qur’an and Hadith, and determine his destination.
