Hadith 9818

عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ يَهْرَمُ ابْنُ آدَمَ وَتَبْقَى مِنْهُ اثْنَتَانِ الْحِرْصُ وَالْأَمَلُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The son of Adam reaches old age, yet two things remain with him: greed and hope.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Even in middle age, this awareness does not arise that the time of departure from this transient world has drawn very near; therefore, one should become engaged in remembrance (dhikr) and seeking forgiveness (istighfar). But the protocol and honor received from the world is so delightful that even in old age, its taste is not forgotten.
