It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mustawrid bin Shaddad (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever eats a morsel (of food) by backbiting, insulting, or harming a Muslim, Allah Almighty will feed him a similar morsel from Hell. Whoever wears a garment (by dishonoring) a Muslim, Allah Almighty will clothe him with a similar garment from Hell. And whoever stands in a place of fame because of another person, Allah Almighty will make him stand in a place of fame on the Day of Resurrection.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Ibn Athir has explained the meaning of the first two sentences in al-Nihayah as follows: A person befriends someone, then goes to that person's enemy and finds faults in his own friend, so that on this basis the enemy may give him some reward or worldly benefit. The meaning of a person standing in a place of fame because of someone is that a person establishes a position among people of wealth and status, and displays piety and righteousness, so that he too may receive wealth and his own rank may be elevated.
