(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) قَالَ كُنْتُ أَقُومُ عَلَى رَأْسِ الْمُخْتَارِ فَلَمَّا عَرَفْتُ كَذِبَهُ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ أَسُلَّ سَيْفِي فَأَضْرِبَ عُنُقَهُ فَذَكَرْتُ حَدِيثًا حَدَّثَنَاهُ عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَمِقِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ مَنْ أَمَّنَ رَجُلًا عَلَى نَفْسِهِ فَقَتَلَهُ أُعْطِيَ لِوَاءَ الْغَدْرِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ
. (Second chain) I used to guard Mukhtar. When I recognized that he was a liar, I intended to draw my sword and strike his neck, but then I remembered a hadith. Sayyiduna Amr bin Hamiq (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever grants a man safety for his life, but then kills him, a banner of treachery will be given to him on the Day of Resurrection.
