وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا يَبْلُغُ بِهِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ تَجِدُ مِنْ شَرِّ النَّاسِ ذَا الْوَجْهَيْنِ الَّذِي يَأْتِي هَؤُلَاءِ بِوَجْهٍ وَهَؤُلَاءِ بِوَجْهٍ
It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: You will find the worst of people to be the two-faced person, who comes to these people with one face and goes to those people with another face.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … By a two-faced person is meant such an individual who, when he goes to one group, makes them believe that he is their well-wisher and sincere towards them and an opponent of the other, but when he goes to the other group, he gives the impression of being loyal to them. This is the worst kind of person; such a person is a liar and loses his dignity even in his own lifetime.
In front of these, he is their friend and the enemy of those, and in front of those, he is their friend and the enemy of these. The Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam spoke the truth: such a person cannot be trustworthy. To become trustworthy, one must set aside considerations for one’s own and disregard for others. It is possible that, due to your being trustworthy, someone may deposit a trust with you whom your elders consider an enemy. But a two-faced person is far removed from fulfilling such a responsibility.
A believer should remain alert that he is steadfast; his standard is the Shariah, he is above the distinction between his own and strangers. Whoever is good in the light of the Shariah should be good in his eyes, and whoever is bad according to Islamic law (Shariah), should also be bad in his eyes. A believer should strive to reform bad people, not go around exposing their faults before others by expressing enmity towards them.
