Hadith 9746

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Buraidah Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not call a hypocrite your leader, because if he becomes your leader, you will anger your Lord.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: ... Azim Abadi rahimahullah writes: If you call a hypocrite (munafiq) "Sayyid" (master), then this necessitates his veneration, whereas he is not deserving of honor and greatness. The second point is that in no way can he be your Sayyid, therefore using this title for him would be nothing but falsehood and hypocrisy. Furthermore, the meaning of this blessed hadith would also be correct that if you accept a hypocrite as your Sayyid, then it will become necessary for you to obey him, and if you obey him, you will anger your Lord. Ibn Athir said: Do not call a hypocrite Sayyid, because if you declare him your Sayyid, it would mean that you are inferior to him, and Allah Ta'ala will not be pleased with your lowering yourself to such a status.
