It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: The example of a helpless hypocrite is like that of a goat which is hesitant between two herds, uncertain about joining either one; sometimes it goes towards this herd and sometimes with that herd, not knowing whether to follow this one or that one.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … There can be no more appropriate example for the hypocrites than this, and in it lies their utmost humiliation, that they have been likened to the feminine, as if they are devoid of manly qualities. Like the lowly, in their pursuit of wealth, they sometimes flatter the Muslims and sometimes the disbelievers; sometimes they claim to be supporters of the Muslims, and at other times they profess friendship with the disbelievers. Yet, even then, they find no satisfaction and remain bewildered and confused—neither do the Muslims consider them their own, nor do the disbelievers.
