عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ حَدَّثَنِي مَنْ سَمِعَ خُطْبَةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَسَطَ أَيَّامِ التَّشْرِيقِ فَقَالَ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ أَلَا إِنَّ رَبَّكُمْ وَاحِدٌ وَإِنَّ أَبَاكُمْ وَاحِدٌ أَلَا لَا فَضْلَ لِعَرَبِيٍّ عَلَى أَعْجَمِيٍّ وَلَا لِعَجَمِيٍّ عَلَى عَرَبِيٍّ وَلَا لِأَحْمَرَ عَلَى أَسْوَدَ وَلَا أَسْوَدَ عَلَى أَحْمَرَ إِلَّا بِالتَّقْوَى أَبَلَّغْتُ قَالُوا بَلَّغَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ
It is narrated from Abu Nadrah that a companion who heard the sermon of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) in the middle of the days of Tashreeq reported that the Noble Prophet said: O people! Beware! Indeed, your Lord is One and your father is one. No Arab has superiority over a non-Arab, nor does a non-Arab have superiority over an Arab, nor does a red-skinned person have superiority over a black-skinned person, nor does a black-skinned person have superiority over a red-skinned person, except on the basis of piety. Have I conveyed the message? The companions said: The Messenger of Allah has conveyed the message.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … If only we too would make piety (taqwa) and fear of Allah the foundation of our relationships. In our society, wealth also holds importance, complexion is also valued, tribalism is also a standard, kinship is also given attention. What is not given importance is piety (taqwa) and righteousness, that is, the very thing which is most important in Islam is not important in our view.
