It is narrated from the wife of the Messenger, Sayyida Aisha (RA), that Sayyida Umm Habiba (RA), who was the wife of Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Auf (RA), had been experiencing istihada (non-menstrual bleeding) for seven years. When she complained about this to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: "This is not menstrual blood; it is an issue of a vein. When menstruation comes, then leave the prayer, and when it ends, perform ghusl and then offer the prayer." Sayyida Aisha (RA) says: This lady used to perform ghusl for every prayer and would sit in the tub of her sister, Sayyida Zainab bint Jahsh (RA), to the extent that the redness of the blood would rise over the water.
