Hadith 9713

عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ ((مَنْ سَمَّعَ النَّاسَ بِعَمَلِهِ سَمَّعَ اللَّهُ بِهِ سَامِعَ خَلْقِهِ وَصَغَّرَهُ وَحَقَّرَهُ)) قَالَ فَذَرَفَتْ عَيْنَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: Whoever seeks to become famous among people through his deeds, Allah Almighty will make him famous before the creation, but then He will make him lowly and contemptible. Then the eyes of Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) filled with tears.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … A hypocritical (show-off) person is considered lowly even in this world by people of sound nature and pious believers, and Allah Almighty also does not allow true love for him to develop in the hearts of the believers.
