Abdullah bin Auf Kanani, who was the governor of Ramla on behalf of Umar bin Abdul Aziz, narrates: He says, I was present with Abdul Malik bin Marwan, and on the day when Amr bin Saeed bin Aas was killed, he said to Basheer bin Aqra’bah Juhani: O Abu al-Yaman! Today I am in need of your speech, so stand up and say something. He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: Whoever stands up to address people, and his only intention is showing off and seeking fame, Allah Almighty will make him stand in the place of showing off and fame.
