Hadith 97

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "By Him in Whose hand is my soul! No servant can be a believer until he desires for his brother what he desires for himself of goodness and virtue."

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In this hadith, the word "al-khayr" possesses comprehensiveness; this word encompasses compliance with the rulings of the Shari‘ah and includes both worldly and hereafter-related permissible matters, while excluding those matters prohibited by the Shari‘ah. That is, the perfect character of a Muslim demands that whatever worldly good and benefit, and whatever hereafter-related good and virtue he likes for himself, he should also like for his Islamic brother; and whatever bad thing he dislikes for himself, he should also dislike it for his brother.

Since we are passing through an era characterized by outward show, materialism, self-interest, haste, and intolerance, due to these moral diseases, the happiness of others disturbs us and the trials of others make us happy.
