عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ قَارِظٍ أَنَّ أَبَاهُ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّهُ دَخَلَ عَلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَهُوَ مَرِيضٌ فَقَالَ لَهُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ وَصَلَتْكَ رَحِمٌ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَنَا الرَّحْمَنُ خَلَقْتُ الرَّحِمَ وَشَقَقْتُ لَهَا مِنْ اسْمِي فَمَنْ يَصِلْهَا أَصِلْهُ وَمَنْ يَقْطَعْهَا أَقْطَعْهُ فَأَبُتَّهُ أَوْ قَالَ مَنْ يَبُتَّهَا أَبُتَّهُ
Abdullah bin Qariz went to Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was ill. He said to him: The bond of kinship has reached you. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty says: I am the Most Merciful (Rahman). I created the womb (i.e., kinship) and derived its name from My own name. Whoever joins it, I will join him, and whoever severs it, I will sever him.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The most precious asset of life is honor; if this capital of existence is lost, it cannot be compensated for, except as Allah wills. Therefore, the honor, life, and wealth of every Muslim have been declared inviolable for another Muslim. Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu narrates that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “... Every Muslim is forbidden to another Muslim: his honor, his wealth, and his blood ... It is enough evil for a person that he should look down upon his Muslim brother.” (Tirmidhi) … The honor of a Muslim, his wealth, and his blood are forbidden to another Muslim … It is sufficient for a man’s evil that he considers his Muslim brother to be insignificant.
