Hadith 9684

(Second chain) The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Indeed, disobedience to parents is the greatest of the major sins. Someone asked: What is meant by disobedience to parents? He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: A man abuses another man, and in retaliation, the latter abuses his father; and he insults his mother, and in response, the latter insults his mother.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The one who directly abuses his parents is, of course, accursed, as is evident from the next hadith. Likewise, anyone who, in any way, becomes a cause of harm or distress to his parents also commits a major sin (kabirah).
