Sayyiduna Salamah bin Qais Ashja'i (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said during the Farewell Pilgrimage: Beware! There are only four things: That you do not associate partners with Allah, do not kill a soul which Allah has forbidden except with due right, do not commit adultery, and do not steal. Then Sayyiduna Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I am the most eager regarding them, because I myself heard them from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … There are various narrations regarding the number of major sins (kabirah), for example, seven, three, or four. The way to reconcile and harmonize these is that the major sins have not been restricted to these numbers; rather, examples of such sins have been mentioned according to the circumstances and the needs of the audience. In some instances, it was more appropriate to mention seven types, and in others, three or four. Otherwise, the number of major sins is actually much greater.
