It is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that a woman came to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! How should I perform ghusl (ritual bath) when attaining purity? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Take a piece of cloth, etc., on which musk has been applied, and purify yourself with it. She said: How should I purify myself with it? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Purify yourself with it. She again said: How should I purify myself with it? Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) expressed amazement and said, "Subhan Allah," and turned away from her, and then said: Purify yourself with it. Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I understood what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) meant, so I pulled the woman towards me and explained to her what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was trying to say to her.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … This narration is brief; the next narration contains the details. The intent of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was that when a woman becomes free from menstruation (hayd), she should apply a fragrance like musk to her private area so that the odor of blood is eliminated and cleanliness is instilled in her disposition.
