Hadith 9527

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I reached the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), he was in a (leather) red tent and about forty men were sitting with him. In another narration: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gathered us, while we were forty individuals. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I was the last to arrive. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Victories will be granted to you, you will be helped, and you will acquire spoils of war. Whoever reaches such a time should fear Allah, enjoin good, forbid evil, and maintain ties of kinship. Whoever deliberately lies about me, let him prepare his abode in Hell. The person who helps a people in their falsehood is like a camel that has been thrown into a well and then pulled out by its tail.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … It is generally observed that conquerors, after conquering a region, consider themselves free from all limits and restrictions and begin to act arbitrarily. However, Islam has bound Muslim conquerors to matters of goodness and virtue. The example given of one who helps his people in their wrongful cause means that such a person has fallen into sin and has been destroyed to such an extent that now he cannot even deliver himself from it. In the present era, most people, caught up in egotism and nationalism, continue to become examples of this.
