Abu Nazar says: Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) had some pain in one of his legs. He was lying down with one leg placed over the other. Meanwhile, his brother came to him and struck his ailing leg, which caused him pain. So he said: You have caused me pain, do you not know that my leg is in pain? He replied: Yes, of course I know. He said: Then why did you do this? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Have you not heard that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has forbidden placing one leg over the other in this manner?

Brief Explanation
Benefits: ... Placing one leg over the other is prohibited when there is exposure of the private parts, or there is a clear risk of it. In these ahadith, prohibition is only in this situation. When there is no risk of exposure, there is no harm in placing one leg over the other. The Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam himself used to lie on his back and place one leg over the other.
