Hadith 9503

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you are three people, then two of you should not whisper to each other leaving the third companion, because this will distress him. In another narration it is stated: Two people should not converse secretly leaving the third, when there is no one else with them.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … When three people are together, or are traveling companions, then in such a situation and place, it is prohibited for two of them to converse secretly with each other, excluding the third, because this causes distress to the third person or leads him to suspicion.
However, when there are more people present, there is no harm in two individuals whispering to each other.
