Saeed Maqbari says: I came and sat with Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), while another man was conversing with him. When I joined them, Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) struck his hand on my chest and said: Do you not know that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When two men are whispering to each other, do not sit with them until you seek their permission.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The distinguishing characteristic of Islamic Shariah is moderation. Just as, due to certain considerations, it is prohibited for two out of three people gathered together to separate themselves and consult privately, likewise, if two individuals are already engaged in confidential conversation at a place, those who arrive later are not permitted to sit in their gathering without permission.
Dear readers! You must have personally experienced that, for various reasons, there are times when you do not wish for anyone to intrude into your gathering and interrupt your private conversation, even if the person coming is your closest and most sincere friend. The Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) has already made a decision in your favor regarding this matter.
It is observed that ordinary friends and acquaintances do not observe these etiquettes, and due to the relationship, they are not reproached either, while inwardly one continues to feel discomfort.
