Hadith 9498

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا يُقِيمُ الرَّجُلُ الرَّجُلَ مِنْ مَجْلِسِهِ وَلَكِنْ افْسَحُوا يَفْسَحِ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No person should make another person stand up from his seat; rather, make room for each other. Allah Almighty will also create spaciousness for you.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … To make someone get up from a gathering and to sit in his place is extremely disrespectful; the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam has prohibited this. The rule for sitting in a gathering is “first come, first served.”
