It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty says; Whoever insults My friend—in another narration: Whoever causes pain to My friend—has declared war against Me, and My servant can only attain My closeness through the fulfillment of obligations, but the servant continues to draw near to Me through voluntary acts until I make him My beloved. Then, when he asks of Me, I grant him, and when he calls upon Me, I answer him. And I am not as hesitant about anything as I am about taking the soul of a believer, because he dislikes death and I dislike causing him grief.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … However, a wali (friend of Allah) is called a pious believer who follows the commands of Allah Almighty and abstains from His prohibitions, as Allah Almighty has said: {اَلَا ٓ اِنَّاَوْلِیَآئَاللّٰہِلَاخَوْف’‘ عَلَیْھِمْوَلَاھُمْیَحْزَنُوْنَالَّذِیْنَاٰمَنُوْاوَکَانُوْایَتَّقُوْنَلَھُمُالْبُشْرٰیفِیالْحَیٰوۃِالدُّنْیَاوَفِیالْاٰخِرَۃِ } … Behold! Verily, the friends of Allah, there shall be no fear upon them, nor shall they grieve—those who believed and adopted piety (taqwa). For them is glad tidings in the life of this world and in the Hereafter. (Surah Yunus: 64)
It is necessary to honor the righteous servants of Allah Almighty; to insult them is tantamount to waging war against Allah Almighty.
A human being does not wish to die, but the wisdom and expediency of Allah is that people die and new ones continue to come. Allah has described this state as “hesitation” (tardud). In this expression, there is Allah’s kindness and grace towards His servant. Then, the wisdom and expediency of Allah prevails, and Allah causes the servant to be afflicted with certain conditions, through which his aversion to death is removed, and so Allah causes him to die. Or, what is meant is the hesitation of the angels, as in the incident of the Angel of Death being sent to Musa (alayhis salam).
