بَابُ التَّرْغِيْبِ فِي مَحَبَّةِ الصَّالِحِينَ وَصُحْبَتِهِمْ وَالْجُلُوسِ مَعَهُمْ وَزَيَارَتِهِمْ وَإِكْرَامِهِمْ وَعَدْمٍ إِبْدَائِهِمْChapter on encouragement to love the righteous, accompany them, sit with them, visit them, honor them, and not show them disrespect

عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَرَأَيْتَ رَجُلًا أَحَبَّ قَوْمًا وَلَمَّا يَلْحَقْ بِهِمْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَرْءُ مَعَ مَنْ أَحَبَّ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! What do you think about a person who loves a certain people, but is not able to meet them? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A person will be with those whom he loves.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Whoever loves righteous people with sincerity, Allah Ta'ala, seeing the closeness of his heart, counts him among those very people. In this, there is encouragement to develop love for righteous people. However, from these narrations, there is no scope to derive the meaning that if one has love for righteous people, then there is no need to perform righteous deeds.
