Hadith 9325

Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that he complained of his poverty to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Abu Sa'id! Be patient, for indeed, poverty and hardship rush towards the one who loves me with such speed as a flood flows from the height of a valley or from the peak of a mountain towards the lowlands."

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Sayyiduna Anas radi Allahu anhu narrates that a man came to the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and said: “Indeed, I love you.” The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: ((Prepare yourself for poverty.)) Then be ready for poverty and deprivation. (Musnad al-Bazzar: 4/229/3595, Sahihah: 2827)

Among the earliest followers of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, the number of poor and destitute people was very high. From the religious literature of the People of the Book, it is evident that the condition of those who obeyed the previous prophets and messengers was also the same. From the era of the Companions radi Allahu anhum until today, the majority of those who have truly loved the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam have remained afflicted with poverty, deprivation, and indigence.

Dear readers! Without a doubt, wealth and riches are a blessing from Allah Ta’ala, but most people have not fulfilled the requirements of this blessing, and this very wealth became a cause for their heedlessness from Islam. Their temperaments changed, and despite being ignorant of the knowledge of the Shari’ah, they tried to mold Islam into the framework of their own desires and convenience. The reality is that those who sacrificed their lives for the defense of Islam, undertook long journeys, transmitted the knowledge of the Shari’ah to the next generations, strove greatly to understand the Noble Qur’an, to memorize it, and to teach it to others, and defended the Sunnah of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam both practically and intellectually—witness is the eye of the heavens—that a large number of such people have belonged to the poor.

Even today, if one examines, those who are seen engaged in jihad, teaching the Qur’an and Hadith, propagating the teachings of the Shari’ah, memorizing the Noble Qur’an, cleaning the mosques, fulfilling the responsibilities of leading and delivering sermons in them, and serving the creation of Allah—the majority of them belong to poverty.

Let it be clear that we are not discussing any specific rich or poor individual, but rather the environment. In any case, these are such facts that are unacceptable for one who was born with a golden spoon.
