It is narrated from Abbas bin Salim Lakhmi that Umar bin Abdul Aziz sent for Abu Salam Habashi, and he was brought to him through a messenger. Umar bin Abdul Aziz wanted to hear a hadith from him about the Hawd (the Prophet’s Pond). So he was brought to him. Umar bin Abdul Aziz asked him, and he replied: I heard Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) narrate that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The expanse of my Hawd is from Aden to Amman Balqa. Its water is whiter than snow and sweeter than honey. Its cups are as numerous as the stars. Whoever drinks from it will never feel thirsty again. The first to come to it will be the poor Muhajirun (Emigrants). Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: O Messenger of Allah! Who are they? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: They are those whose hair is disheveled, whose clothes are dirty, who cannot marry well-off women, and for whom closed doors are not opened. Upon hearing this, Umar bin Abdul Aziz said: I have married well-off women and closed doors have been opened for me, unless Allah has mercy on me. By Allah! There is no doubt that I do not apply oil to my head until it becomes disheveled, and I do not wash the clothes I wear until they become dirty.
