Hadith 921

(وَعَنْهَا مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) قَالَتْ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصِيبُ مِنْ أَهْلِهِ مِنْ أَوَّلِ اللَّيْلِ ثُمَّ يَنَامُ وَلَا يَمَسُّ مَاءً، فَإِذَا اسْتَيْقَظَ مِنْ آخِرِ اللَّيْلِ عَادَ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ وَاغْتَسَلَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Qais bin Asim (may Allah be pleased with him) that when he accepted Islam during the Prophetic era, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed him to perform ghusl (ritual bath) with water and lotus leaves.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … From these ahadith it is understood that the one who accepts Islam should perform a ritual bath (ghusl), and the people of Islam should demand this from him. It is thus known that performing a ritual bath (ghusl) is necessary for the one who becomes a Muslim.
