Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a man began to abuse Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) while the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting nearby, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was amazed and kept smiling. When that person increased his insults, Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) replied to some of his abuses. At this, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became displeased and left. Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) followed him and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! He kept abusing me, but you remained seated. When I replied to some of his abuses, you became angry and stood up. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: In fact, there was an angel with you who was replying on your behalf, but when you yourself started to retaliate, Satan entered, and I cannot sit with Satan. Then he said: O Abu Bakr! Three things are certain: (1) Whoever is wronged and overlooks it, Allah Almighty grants him tremendous help; (2) Whoever gives gifts to maintain relationships, Allah Almighty grants him abundance; and (3) Whoever begins to ask (people) to increase his wealth, Allah Almighty increases the decrease in his wealth.
