Syedna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Shall I not inform you about the most beloved people? The people said: Yes, why not, O Messenger of Allah! He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The best among you are those whose lives are long and whose character is good.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The life of this world is the only means for preparing for the Hereafter. Billions of people have come, played their role, and departed towards their final destination. The same will happen with us and with those who come after us. Whether past, present, or future, the truly fortunate one is he who, while living in this world, gathers as many means for Paradise as possible. It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Busr al-Mazani radi Allahu anhu that two Bedouins came to the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. One of them asked: O Messenger of Allah! Which people are the best? He sallallahu alayhi wa sallam replied: ((Tuba liman tala ‘umuruhu wa hasuna ‘amaluhu.)) (Sahihah: 1836) … Glad tidings for the person whose life is long and whose deeds are good.
Whoever is deprived of this quality will be deprived of the goodness and well-being of both this world and the Hereafter. Such a person will, day by day, become indebted to Allah ta‘ala. Such a wretch is neither alive in the sense that he can benefit from life, nor dead such that he would not be reproached for abandoning good deeds and committing evil deeds.
