Hadith 9110

Sayyiduna Abu Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The person from whom consultation is sought is a trustee. Shadhan, the narrator, also mentioned this hadith: The one who guides towards goodness is like the one who does it.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … To have goodwill (khayrkhwahi) towards a Muslim means to desire good and well-being for a Muslim. These are very comprehensive ahadith; apparently, they consist of only a few words, that goodwill must be shown to every Muslim. However, the complete rights of all other Muslims have been stated. To desire good for someone means that, as much as possible, benefit should be given to him, good advice should be offered, and no harm should be caused to him. Especially when one Muslim seeks counsel from another Muslim, then at the time of giving advice, all beneficial and harmful aspects should be made clear, and no stinginess should be shown.

Reflecting on the ahadith of the next chapter will help in understanding the meaning of goodwill.
