Sayyiduna Miqdam bin Ma’dikarib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The (first) night’s hospitality for a guest is obligatory upon every Muslim. If the guest spends the night in the host’s adjoining courtyard in such a state that he is deprived of this right, then it will be a debt upon the host. The guest may demand it if he wishes, or he may forgo it.
