Abdullah bin Ubaid says that a group of the noble Companions came to Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both). He presented bread and vinegar and said: Eat, the reason I am offering this is that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say that the best condiment is vinegar. It is a cause of a man's ruin that a group of his brothers comes to him and he considers what is present in the house as insignificant to offer as hospitality, and it is a cause of people's ruin that they consider what is presented to them in hospitality as insignificant.
