(Second chain) Sayyida Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) said: My mother came to me; this was during the period when there was a treaty between the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and the Quraysh. My mother was a polytheist and in need. I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! My mother has come to me, she is a polytheist and desires help, should I maintain ties of kinship with her? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Maintain ties of kinship with your mother.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … It is thus established that even if the parents are disbelievers and polytheists, they are still deserving of good conduct from their children. The statement of Allah, the Exalted, is: {وَاِنْ جَاھَدٰکَ عَلٰٓی اَنْ تُشْرِکَ بِیْ مَا لَیْسَ لَکَ بِہٖعِلْم’‘ فَـلَا تُطِعْھُمَا وَصَاحِبْھُمَا فِی الدُّنْیَا مَعْرُوْفًا} … And if they (the parents) strive to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, then do not obey them, but accompany them in this world with kindness. (Surah Luqman: 15)

Reflect upon this: even with parents who are polytheists and who compel one towards polytheism, the instruction is to treat them with good conduct. One can then estimate for oneself the status and rank of Muslim parents. This verse is a clear proof of the greatness of parents.
