(Second chain) A man came to the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) seeking permission for jihad. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Are your parents alive? He replied: Yes. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then serve them, for that is your jihad.

Benefits: … Some scholars of knowledge have classified this hadith as sahih (authentic) and some as hasan (good). However, in its chain of narration is the narrator Ibn Lahi‘ah, who is weak, and Darraj narrates from Abu al-Haytham, and this chain is also considered weak by the scholars of knowledge. Yes, in some versions Ibn Lahi‘ah is not present. In any case, if this narration is sahih or hasan, then the aforementioned reason for weakness must be compensated for; otherwise, it is not correct to call it sahih or hasan. (Abdullah Rafiq)
