عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا يَجْزِي وَلَدٌ وَالِدَهُ إِلَّا أَنْ يَجِدَهُ مَمْلُوكًا فَيَشْتَرِيَهُ فَيُعْتِقَهُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: No child can repay his father or mother, except that he finds them as a slave and buys them and sets them free.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The jurisprudential understanding (fiqh) of this hadith is that, in this respect, a slave is like a deceased person in that he has no authority to exercise control (tasarruf) over himself. Therefore, his emancipation is akin to restoring his life. Thus, whoever frees his father, it is as if he has given life to his father, just as his father was the cause of his own life; it is as though he has repaid his father’s favor.
