Hadith 8980

عَنْ مُعَاذٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ سَأُنَبِّئُكَ بِأَبْوَابٍ مِنَ الْخَيْرِ الصَّوْمُ جُنَّةٌ وَالصَّدَقَةُ تُطْفِئُ الْخَطِيئَةَ كَمَا يُطْفِئُ الْمَاءُ النَّارَ وَقِيَامُ الْعَبْدِ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ ثُمَّ قَرَأَ {تَتَجَافَى جُنُوبُهُمْ عَنِ الْمَضَاجِعِ} [سورة السجدة: ١٦] الْآيَةَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Shall I not inform you about the doors of goodness and virtue? Fasting is a shield, charity wipes out sins just as water extinguishes fire, and a servant standing (in prayer) at night. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: {تَتَجَافٰی جُنُوبُھُمْ عَنِ الْمَضَاجِعِ … }.

Benefits: … The complete verse is: {تَتَجَافٰی جُنُوبُھُمْ عَنِ الْمَضَاجِعِ یَدْعُوْنَ رَبَّھُمْ خَوْفًا وَّطَمَعًا وَّ مِمَّا رَزَقْنٰھُمْ یُنْفِقُوْنَ۔} … Their sides forsake their beds, they call upon their Lord in fear and hope, and they spend out of what We have provided them. (Surah As-Sajdah: 16)
