Hadith 889

It is narrated from the wife of the Messenger, Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: I said: O Messenger of Allah! I am a woman who tightly braids her hair. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then it is sufficient for you to pour water over your head three times.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The wording of the narration in Sahih Muslim is as follows: Sayyidah Umm Salamah radi Allahu anha said: O Messenger of Allah! Should I undo (the braids of) my hair for the ritual bath (ghusl) of menstruation and major ritual impurity (janabah)? You sallallahu alayhi wa sallam replied: No, it is sufficient for you to pour three handfuls of water over your head and then pour water over yourself, and in this way you will become purified.
