It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ma’n bin Yazid (may Allah be pleased with them both), he says: I pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) along with my father and grandfather. He sent a proposal for my engagement and also performed my marriage. I went to him with a dispute. The detail is that my father, Sayyiduna Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him), went out to give some dinars in charity and gave them to a man in the mosque (so that he would give charity on his behalf), but what happened was that I took those dinars from him and brought them home. So he said: By Allah! I did not intend to give them to you. So I took this dispute to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Yazid! For you is what you intended, and O Ma’n! Whatever you have taken is for you.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Sayyiduna Yazid radi Allahu anhu, with the intention of giving charity to the needy, appointed a man as his agent and deposited his dinars with him, granting him unrestricted permission. When that same amount was received by his son, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam validated its receipt, because he (the son) was included among the poor.
According to a narration in Musnad Ahmad, Ma'n also stated that the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam gave a verdict in my favor. (Buloogh al-Amani, under the hadith under study)
Hafiz Ibn Hajar rahimahullah said: The dispute refers to the discussion between Ma'n and his father Yazid regarding the charity, in which the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam deemed Ma'n's taking of the charity permissible due to his being in need. (Fath al-Bari, vol. 3, p. 292) (Abdullah Rafiq)
