Hadith 8885

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ يُبْعَثُ النَّاسُ وَرُبَمَا قَالَ شَرِيكٌ يُحْشَرُ النَّاسُ عَلَى نِيَّاتِهِمْ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: People will be raised (on the Day of Resurrection) according to their intentions.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The explanation of this hadith will be clarified by the following narration: It is reported from Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Umar radi Allahu anhu that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: When Allah, the Exalted, intends to punish a people, then all the individuals of that people are afflicted with that punishment; then they will be resurrected according to their deeds.
(Sahih Bukhari: 7108, Sahih Muslim: 2879)
That is, the necessary result of such punishment is not that Allah, the Exalted, is displeased with everyone; rather, in such a town, some people are righteous, some are very evil, some are less evil, some are compelled, some are consenting. Therefore, on the Day of Resurrection, each will be raised according to his practical ability and intention.
