It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that it was asked from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "A day will be of fifty thousand years, how long will that day be?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By Him in Whose hand is my soul! It will be very light upon the believer; it will feel to him only as long as he spends in performing an obligatory prayer in the world."

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The command of Allah, the Exalted, is: {تَعْرُجُالْمَلٰئِکَۃُوَالرُّوْحُاِلَیْہِفِیْیَوْمٍکَانَمِقْدَارُہخَمْسِیْنَاَلْفَسَـنَۃٍ۔} … The angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. (Surah al-Ma'arij: 4)
There is much difference of opinion regarding the specification of this day. Hafiz Ibn Kathir, after mentioning a total of four opinions, has given preference to the following view: This is the Day of Resurrection (Qiyamah); in this verse, its duration has been stated. This is also supported by the following hadith:
The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, while describing the punishment for one who withholds zakat, said: ((Hatta yahkuma Allahu bayna ibadihi fi yawmin kana miqdaruhu khamsina alfa sanatin mimma tauddoon.)) … (that his punishment will continue) until Allah, the Exalted, judges between His servants on a day whose duration, according to your reckoning, will be fifty thousand years. (Sahih Muslim)
