It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the people of Makkah asked the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for a miracle, so the moon was split into two in Makkah. Then Allah the Exalted said: {اقْتَرَبَتِالسَّاعَۃُوَانْشَقَّالْقَمَرُوَإِنْیَرَوْاآیَۃًیُعْرِضُوْاوَیَقُولُوْاسِحْرٌمُسْتَمِرٌّ} … The Hour has drawn near, and the moon has split. Yet whenever they see a sign, they turn away and say, "This is passing magic."

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … This miracle was shown at the request of the people of Makkah. Among the scholars, it is agreed upon that the splitting of the moon (inshiqaq al-qamar) occurred during the time of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and it is among his clear miracles. Authentic and mass-transmitted (mutawatir) hadiths indicate this. However, instead of believing, the Quraysh declared it to be magic and continued in their attitude of turning away.
