It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the people of Makkah asked the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for a miracle, so the moon was split into two in Makkah. Then Allah the Exalted said: {اقْتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَۃُ وَانْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ وَإِنْ یَرَوْا آیَۃًیُعْرِضُوْا وَیَقُولُوْا سِحْرٌ مُسْتَمِرٌّ} … The Hour has drawn near, and the moon has split. Yet whenever they see a sign, they turn away and say, "This is passing magic."
