Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal Muzani (may Allah be pleased with him) that we were sitting with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) near the root of that tree which Allah Almighty has mentioned in the Holy Qur’an. The branches of that tree were falling on the blessed back of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Sayyiduna Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) and the representative of Quraysh, Suhail bin Amr, were in front of him. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): (Write the agreement), write: “In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.” But Suhail bin Amr held his hand and said: We do not know “In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.” In our peace agreement, write what we know. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (Alright) “In Your name, O Allah.” Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) dictated: This is the document upon which Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), made peace with the people of Makkah. But Suhail again held his hand and said: If you are the Messenger of Allah, then we have stopped you and wronged you; we do not accept your Prophethood. Write in our peace agreement what we recognize. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (Fine) Write: This is the agreement upon which Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Abdul Muttalib made peace. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Write it, write it, while I am truly the Messenger of Allah and I am also Muhammad bin Abdullah. We were writing the terms of this peace when thirty (30) young men, armed, came before us. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed them; Allah Almighty took away their sight and we advanced and captured them. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked them: Are you under anyone’s protection? Has anyone given you safety? They said: No. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) released them, and Allah Almighty revealed this verse: { وَہُوَ الَّذِی کَفَّ أَیْدِیَہُمْ عَنْکُمْ وَأَ یْدِیَکُمْ عَنْہُمْ بِبَطْنِ مَکَّۃَ مِنْ بَعْدِ أَنْ أَ ظْفَرَکُمْ عَلَیْہِمْ وَکَانَ اللّٰہُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِیرًا۔} … He it is Who withheld their hands from you and your hands from them in the midst of Makkah after He had given you victory over them. And Allah is Seeing of what you do.
